Orhan Tekelioglu

Translates from Norwegian into Turkish

Info about Prof. Dr. Orhan Tekelioglu:

I believe I am the only translator currently translating poetry from Norwegian into Turkish. To date, three of my translation books have been published in Turkish. Two of these contain translations of works by Olav H. Hauge and one by Tarjei Vesaas.

As I am currently compiling an anthology of modern Norwegian poetry, I continue to translate poems by various poets. In addition to my work as a translator, I am also academically involved in literature. I am one of the academics who founded the Department of Turkish Literature at Bilkent University, Ankara. Furthermore, I continue to write and publish articles on Turkish culture in general and Turkish literature in particular.

One final note: in 2026, I was awarded the Ambolt Prize, which is presented every two years to translators of Olav H. Hauge’s poetry.
